Sustainability.

River Cottage is an original mill worker’s cottage dating back to the 1800s that has been completely updated for modern living.

Furnishings are high-end and functional and the house has an efficient space and water heating system, on timers to discourage wastefulness. A brand new wood burning stove was installed in 2023, which complies with current efficiency standards .

Cleaning and maintenance is carried out by the owners, who live on site. Laundry is done on-site.

Although not always possible, we aim to keep our bookings to a minimum of two nights to avoid excessive cleaning and laundry costs.

Our cleaning products are environmentally friendly as far as possible and we encourage our guests to recycle. Bathroom products and store cupboard items are, where possible, sourced locally or in Wales or neighbouring Shropshire.

The cottage is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Whilst we mow the lawns on a weekly basis, we try where possible to otherwise leave the flora and fauna in a natural state to encourage wildlife.

We ask our guests to ensure that any outside lighting is kept to a minimum as the cottage is located on the edge of a Dark Sky Area, where light pollution is minimal.
