On the southern edge of Snowdonia National Park, and within an hour of the famous West Wales coastline, River Cottage is ideally situated for exploring beautiful North and Mid Wales.

Local amenities.
River Cottage is located in the small village of Foel in a rural, predominantly farming area. Despite this, there are services within reach, though you will need a car. Be prepared that opening hours can be a bit limited and erratic, especially during the winter months.
Eating & drinking
Dyffryn Cafe in Foel does a great breakfast and is dog friendly.
Cwpan Pinc in Llangadfan, a few minutes drive away, has a small cafe for breakfasts and lunches.
Try Cann Office Hotel in Llangadfan for pub grub (and dog friendly).
In Llanfair Caerenion (15 minutes drive away) you will find a fish & chip shop (average) and a Chinese takeaway (good).

Other services
There is a small shop, Post Office and cafe in the village of Llangadfan, a few minutes drive away - Cwpan Pinc . Limited choice and limited opening hours, but fine for a loaf of bread or a pint of milk when you’re out and about. There is also a small Spar in the centre of Llanfair Caerenion (around 15 minutes drive away).
The nearest petrol stations (both of which have a ‘mini-mart’) are in Llanfair Caerenion and Mallwydd - both are around 15 minutes drive from the cottage.
The nearest EV charging points are in Llainfair Caerenion and in Welshpool.
For supermarkets, banks and other services, we are within a 30-40 minute drive from the towns of Welshpool, Machynlleth, Newtown and Oswestry. Further afield, you will find Shrewsbury, Wrexham and Chester, all about an hour’s drive away.

Local walks
If you fancy some fresh air or to stretch your legs with your dog, you will find some lovely walks around the valley straight from your front door.
Or you can jump in the car and five minutes’ away you can follow the Rainbow Trails in Dyfnant Forest
10 minutes’ drive away is the pretty Ann Griffiths Walk along the River Vyrnwy.
